Indian consular fees and requirements
Two numbers appear on almost every Indian consular fee, and only one of them is the fee. The other is the Indian Community Welfare Fund contribution, two or three dollars depending on the service, and it has to go in a separate money order or cashier's check.
One cheque covering both is among the most common reasons a file comes back unprocessed.
On top of that, anything routed through VFS Global carries a service charge of $19, which is the outsourcing partner's money and not the government's.

Payment is by money order or cashier's check, not cash and not a personal cheque. Where a portal takes the government fee online, it takes cards.
⚠️ Passport and visa fees are not listed here. They change with the booklet, the age of the applicant and the route, several consulates publish them as an image rather than as text, and one official page still quotes CKGS, the outsourcing partner VFS replaced.
